June 28, 2021,Montgomery, Alabama : Bring Dad to the Races night, originally planned for Father’s Day weekend, was postponed due to inclement weather, but nevertheless better late than never! Many Fathers were in attendance for the races, we were able to get pictures of a few of them in the pit area. Saturday nights action featured 2 “Show me the MONEY” Pro Late Model twin 50’s, a 50 lap Shelby Concrete Street Stock event, and a 25 lap Blacksheep Woodlands late model sportsman race.

As the day got started and the pro late models took the track for the first practice, many familiar names jumped to the top of the leaderboards. Hunter Robbins #18 in the Ronnie Sanders Racing Pro Late model was the fastest in practice #1. Followed by Alabama 200 winner and 2020 “Show me the MONEY” Champion Christopher Tullis #12 and Hueytowns, Justin Bonnett Driving the familiar #12. Indiana’s Mason Keller, driving for Anthony Campi Racing this weekend in the #81 filling in for Jett Noland, took fourth quickest in the first practice. Fifth place featured former modified driver and Alabama native Jim Wall #91.
The second practice saw the Indiana native Mason Keller #81 in the ACR car take the fastest lap. Jake Garcia #35, last years Alabama 200 winner and the Spring Explosion winner earlier this year was second fastest. The Kannapolis, North Carolina native Matt Craig #54, Chase Spradlin #89, and “Mr. Montgomery” Augie Grill #112 rounded out the top five.
Augie Grill #112 continued to make changes and get faster throughout the day, taking the Bama Budweiser Pole award in qualifying. Matt Craig #54 and Justin Bonnett #12 were not far behind Grill, as they both put up the same exact times. The young gun Jake Garcia #35 qualified fourth followed by Mason Keller #81 rounding out the top five. Hunter Robbins #18, Christopher Tullis #12, and Chase Spradlin #89 rounded out the top 8 as the top 8 would redraw for their starting position. Dalton Grindle #21 and Hunter Wright #16 rounded out the top 10. As the top 8 drivers redrew for their starting position, it was Christopher Tullis #12 drawing the pole position, with Matt Craig #54 drawing the outside of the front row.

The North Carolina native Matt Craig #54 has been strong this year at Montgomery Motor Speedway in the “Show me the MONEY” pro late model series. Craig #54 jumped out to the lead over Christopher Tullis #12, by finding speed in the second groove. The two ran side by side for 10 laps, with Matt Craig #54 leading all of the first 13 laps. Christopher Tullis #12 then made the bottom lane work and took the lead back from Craig. Right behind them, a fast Augie Grill #112 continued to do his thing, looking to take advantage of any mistakes. Jake Garcia #35 started in the seventh spot, and worked his way up to fourth, where he was content running and saving his tires for the second twin 50 feature. As laps wound down, things became interesting. Christopher Tullis #12 continued to run the bottom line, with Matt Craig #54 running the top line, side by side battling for the lead. Christopher Tullis #12 was able to hold off Matt Craig #54 and Augie Grill #112 and take the win in the first of Saturday nights 2 features. Behind the leaders, Jake Garcia #35 finished fourth, and Hunter Robbins #18 rounded out the top five. The battle for sixth went on for most of the race, with Chase Spradlin #89 holding off Mason Keller #81 and Hunter Wright #16. Justin Bonnett #12 and Allen Gordon #29 finished ninth and tenth.

At the conclusion of the first twin 50, winner Christopher Tullis #12 rolled the die as the crowd at Montgomery Motor Speedway watch it land a 1. This meant they would start the second feature the same way they finished the first, and Christopher Tullis #12 would lead the field to the green. Just like the first race, it was Matt Craig #54 getting a good run on the outside and winning the restart, putting him out front. Craig #54 led the first 20 laps, before a hard charging Jake Garcia #35 made the pass for the lead. Behind Garcia #35, Augie Grill #112 worked his way up to second. Mason Keller #81 worked his way through the field up to the fourth position, challenging Tullis #12 for third. Hunter Wright #16 followed Keller #81 through the field, getting up to sixth. Behind him in seventh, John Bolen #2 came from 11th to 7th. In 8th, Gage Rodgers charged through the field starting in 14th and getting up to 8th. Allen Gordon #29 and Nick McFarland #6 rebounding from his last lap spin in race 1 rounds out the top 10. Jake Garcia #35 continued to impress, as he wins once again here at Montgomery Motor Speedway and takes the second twin 50 win. Augie Grill #112 finished with a third and second place finish in the two features. Christopher Tullis #12 takes a first and third place finish.

Bama Budweiser Qualifying for the Street Stocks earlier in the day on Saturday showed Davey Lynn #80 as the fastest car. Keith Grace #81 qualified second, with Trey Grimes #51 third fastest. Will Smith #7 and Kameron Wesenburg #32 rounding out the top five. The dice roll was a six, putting Daniel Jacks #1 starting on the pole with Kameron “Rosie Cheeks” Wesenburg #32 on the outside of the front row. A back and forth battle for the lead between Daniel Jacks #1 and Kameron Wesenburg in the top groove went on for many laps as they battled side by side. It was Daniel Jacks #1 leading the first 14 laps before Kameron Wesenburg #32 was able to pull ahead. He led 10 laps before he was passed by 3-time winner this season Trey Grimes #51. Trey Grimes #51 was able to win the restart twice on lap 34 and hold off Wessenburg #32 and Daniel Jacks #1 to pick up his fourth win of the season. Davey Lynn #80 and Buddy Pitts #26 rounded out the top five.

The Late Model Sportman were the last feature of the night. Joel Collier #71 starting on the pole took control of the race on lap 1, with Ryan Reuse #85 to his outside. Collier #71 led the first two laps before Bill Bethea #20 took the lead. Bethea’s teammate Jason Furrow #21 also made a pass on Collier #71 for second place, looking to run down Bethea. Jason Furrow #21 gave it everything he had, but it wasn’t enough to get by Bethea #20. Bill Bethea #20 picked up his first win of the year in the late model sportsman series. Jason Furrow #21 and Joel Collier #71 finished top 3. Cody McCawley #62 and Ryan Reuse #85 rounded out the top five.
