July 13, 2015 Montgomery, Al: As the speedway honored our country for its 239th birthday. The racers did their part by treating the fans to a night of exciting racing. Mother nature had spoiled the event the week before and all events were moved to July 11th . She and Murphy got together this week but could not stop the celebration from taking place. A hard rain shower early in the day and a power outage did not discourage the staff and racers as the show went on without a hitch.
Budweiser qualifying started with Steve Looney #21 posting fast time in the Modified mini Divisions. Joe Bethea Jr #33 was your fast time in Street Stocks and Perry Patino #51 rolled off a quick time of 21.018 but the time was disallowed due to a piece of lead dislodging from the car and was penalized and had to start from the rear of the field.
Modified Minis were the first feature of the evening and although the car count was small the action was big as the #7 of Calera Alabamas Rusty Alverson and the #21 of Steve Looney from Hueytown, Alabama battled for the lead lap after lap. Some fans may have recognized the #22 car of David Davis from Mt Olive, Alabama as the one campaigned by Roddy Moore in years past at Montgomery Motor Speedway and Birmingham International Speedway.

Street Stock division rolled out and proved to be the action packed race of the night as Charles Davis returned with his #6 car and started on the front row. Davis and Bubba Hutchinson #38 led the field for the first 8 laps as some Bumper to bumper fender bangin action went on behind them. Caution flew for a spin by the #33 and the action was back on. The #33 Bethea Jr., #17 Chance Atkins And #31 Dwayne Wesenberg were locked in a tight battle as the moved their way to the front. The #22 of Michael garris never could get the mechanical issues worked out and had to retire at lap 18. #33 Bethea Jr got to the front with Atkins #17 in tow. The #31 was locked in a battle with #6 of Charles Davis but the handling seemed to go away for the Lapine, Alabama driver and Wesenberg was able to secure the 3rd spot.

Interstate Batteries Late Model Sportsman hit the historic half mile racetrack for a 40 lap feature. With the #91 of Larry Speakman And the #21 of Jason Furrow on the front row after #89 Joe Hudson elected to drop to the rear. Speakman led the first 2 circuits but relinquished the lead to Furrow #21 on lap 3. The #17 of Keith Joiner was black flagged early in the event and had to retire with mechanical issues. Note: Justin Caton had practiced earlier in the day but lost a motor and could not compete. Joe wilder #42 also had mechanical issues was not able to compete Patino #51 was working his way to the front as the race went on. Lap 12 saw a lead change as the F&E sportswear ride made a move under the Black Sheep Woodlands Sponsored #21 for the top spot. Drivers settled into a rhythm as the race progressed. A caution on lap 32 bunched the field together for the restart. The #89 of Hudson quickly moved his ride into the #3 position behind Furrow. The #21 machine sounded like his motor was giving up as the laps winded down. In the end it was Patino #51 with his second win in a row and Furrow and Hudson rounding out the top 3.

Fans were not going anywere as Stuntman Rocky Hardcore was strapping into his Saturn Stunt car provided by 82 wrecker service. The ramp had been set up on pit road for all to see and the anticipation was thick. Rocky stopped on the front stretch to address the crowd and sped off for his high flying attempt. The car approached the ramp and all eyes were on pit road. The rocky placed the car perfectly on the ramp and flew towards the crash site. Many fans were stunned as the Saturn did a nose dive into the landing area and flipped on to its roof . Safety personel rushed to the scene and soon extracated Rocky from his stunt car. The crowd roared as he exited the vehicle and waved to his fans. Video can be seen at
The evening was not over as Montgomery Motor Speedway and Insane Mike McCain fireworks provided the celebration in the sky with a spectacular display of colorful explosions in the night Air.
