Season Opener Brings Exciting Racing

April 5, 2022 Montgomery, Alabama :The season opener at Montgomery Motor Speedway kicked off Saturday night with some of the best short track racing in the Country. A fan favorite at Montgomery Motor Speedway and across the southeast, the Shelby Concrete Street Stocks ran a 58 lap shootout followed by an exciting Blacksheep Woodlands Late Model Sportsman 40 lap shootout.

As the night got underway, the Street Stocks and Late Model Sportsman parked their hot rods on the frontstretch for an autograph session. Fans got autographs from all of their favorite drivers AND special giveaways from Capital Recycling, 82 Wrecker, Modifieds of Mayhem Tour, and MMS from track announcer Bill “David Lee” Roth.

After the autograph session finished up it was time to kick the 2022 season off at the historic Montgomery Motor Speedway with the Shelby Concrete Street Stocks. Former Alabama 200 winner and NASCAR competitor, Dave Mader #18 won the BAMA Budweiser Pole Award for the Shelby Concrete Street Stock feature. Charles Davis #6 brought home the Street Stock feature at the Rattler back in March, rolled off on the outside of the front row. A good field of Shelby Concrete Street Stocks rolled off for 58 laps of excitement!

Dave Mader wins the BAMA Budweiser Pole Award

It was Enterprise, Alabama native Daniel Parker #18 jumping out to a quick lead and taking control of the race. As Parker continued to hold off the field a caution waived on lap 29. Dave Mader #18 pitted with a flat tire that ended his night earlier than expected. Daniel Parker #18 jumped off to the lead again continuing to pace the field with Keith Grace #81, Daniel Jacks #1, Will Smith #7, and Kameron Wesenburg #32 right behind. On lap 50, Kameron Wesenburg #32 had car issues and the caution flag waived again. This would re-stack the field with 8 laps to go. Daniel Parker #18 jumped out to the lead again with Keith Grace #81, Will Smith #7, and Daniel Jacks #1 all waiting for him to make a mistake. As the checkered flag waived, it was Daniel Parker #18 taking home the first Shelby Concrete Street Stock feature of the season!

After the always exciting Shelby Concrete Street Stocks, it was time for the 40-lap shootout with the Blacksheep Woodlands Late Model Sportsman.

The BAMA Budweiser Pole Award was rewarded to Bill Bethea III #20 for the Blacksheep Woodlands Late Model Sportsman feature. After a dice roll, it would be Bobby Reuse #89 leading the field to green with Justin Caton #44 starting on the outside of the front row.

Justin Caton #44 won the battle on the restart from the outside and led the first 4 laps of the race before the #20 of Bill Bethea took control of the race. Tight racing all through the field resulted in a caution on lap 24 with both Ryan Reuse #85 and Justin Caton #44 single car spinning. As everybody bunched back up for the restart it was Larry Speakman #8 hitting the outside wall and bringing out the yellow flag. After the next restart it was Bill Bethea III #20 gaining control of the race lead once again and holding off the Veteran Bobby Reuse #89 and the 2021 Street Stock champion Trey Grimes #51. Caution flags waived again on lap 33 with Justin Caton #44 taking a spin. As the field came back to green a pile up on the restart ended the night early for Caton #44, Ryan Reuse #85, and Larry Hughes #88. As the field came back to the green flag with 7 laps to go, Bill Bethea III #20 won the restart again. Bethea #20 would hold off the young gun of Trey Grimes #51 to claim his first Victory of the season in the Blacksheep Woodlands Late Model Sportsman. Trey Grimes #51 would bring home a runner-up finish in his first ever Late Model Sportsman feature. Chance Atkins #18 would bring home the third place trophy with Wes Schuffert #21 and Bobby Reuse #89 rounding out the top-5.
