What to expect for the MMS Season Opener

This weekend will feature 3 of the best racing divisions in all of the Southeast at Montgomery Motor Speedway. Not only will the Shelby Concrete Street Stocks, Blacksheep Woodlands Late Model Sportsman, and the Big bad boys in the Roadrunners be racing at MMS this Saturday night, but the Street Stocks will also have Autograph Sessions for the fans! Many of the southeast’s best drivers across many different divisions will be out at Montgomery Motor Speedway and ready to sign autographs. We are looking forward to a night full of fun and great racing!

A local favorite at Montgomery Motor Speedway has been the old school racing with much support, the Shelby Concrete Street Stocks. The Shelby Concrete Street Stocks will kickoff the 2022 season with a 58 lap race this Saturday night and a $1200 to win payout. The Street Stock drivers are eager to get back on the track and under the lights after a long off-season.

Among those entered for the season opener is 2021 Shelby Concrete Street Stock Champion Kameron Wesenburg #32. Wesenburg finished inside the top 10 in all but 3 races last year. While he did not find Victory Lane, he did finish runner-up twice, with 5 total podium finishes. Kameron Wesenburg #32 will be one to keep an eye on and he will be looking to park his hot rod in Victory Lane to kick off the 2022 season.

Trey Grimes #51 finished runner-up to Wesenburg last season in the point standings, and will be looking to take home the trophy this year. Grimes won 4 times last season with 7 top-5 finishes. Trey Grimes finished the season strong in 2021 winning 4 of the last 5 races of the season. Grimes won the 2019 track Championship in the Shelby Concrete Street Stocks. Grimes ran at the Alabama 200 in the Impact Zone Outlaws division finishing 15th. He will also be one to watch for this Saturday night.

Charles Davis #6 won the 2020 Shelby Concrete Street Stocks Championship. Charles won 3 times in 2021 with 7 top 5 finishes. Charles finished 5th in the points in 2021. He has already started the year out strong with a Street Stock win at South Alabama Speedway a couple of weeks ago. Charles is always one to watch, especially at Montgomery Motor Speedway.

Daniel Jacks #1 has finished third in the point standings both of the last 2 seasons with the highest average finish over the combined 2 years. He did not find Victory Lane last season, but he did compile 6 top 5 finishes. Daniel Jacks is itching to get to Victory Lane and will be looking to do so this Saturday night.

Dave Mader has won everything he’s ever been in. Former Alabama 200 winner and former Nascar and ARCA competitor. This Saturday he will be jumping into his Street Stock and looking to add to his trophy collection.

Many Veteran drivers are racing in this Saturday night’s Shelby Concrete Street Stock feature such as Enterprise, Alabama’s Daniel Parker#18. Daniel Parker has raced in many different divisions on both dirt and asphalt, he will be looking to show what the Veteran drivers can do and find Victory Lane. Brad Edwards #18 will be looking to add to his trophy collection and jump back into Victory Lane at MMS. Buddy Pitts #26 has raced at MMS for years and will be looking to show the young guns what he can do. Daniel Davis #11 has raced across Alabama in many different divisions, he will be back in action in a Street Stock this Saturday night. Will Smith #7 has raced both dirt and asphalt, he will be trying his luck with asphalt this Saturday night at MMS.

When you have Veterans that means you also have young guns, there are plenty of them racing this Saturday night in the Shelby Concrete Street Stocks. The Evans brothers have raced in everything everywhere across the southeast including the Alabama 200. Austin Evans ran his Outlaw at the Alabama 200 bringing home an 18th place finish. Hunter Evans raced his Modified of MAYHEM and brought it home 13th. Hunter Evans, Austin Evans, and Trey Grimes will be the young guns to watch this Saturday night.

Joining the Shelby Concrete Street Stocks will be the Blacksheep Woodlands Late Model Sportsman series. This series has continued to grow over the past few years at a tremendous rate. Last year the series featured 29 different drivers and has grown to be some of the best racing at Montgomery Motor Speedway.

Former Nascar competitor and Trans Am competitor, Bobby Reuse #85 will be back in action in a Late Model Sportsman this Saturday night. Joining him will be his nephew Ryan Reuse #89. Ryan finished 4th last season in the Blacksheep Woodlands Late Model Sportsman division. Ryan will be looking for his first win, while his uncle Bobby will be looking to get back to Victory Lane at Montgomery Motor Speedway.

Bill Bethea #20 finished third in the point standings last year. Bethea had 1 win with 6 top 5 finishes. Bill Bethea #20 is always one to watch at Montgomery Motor Speedway.

Trey Grimes #51 will be pulling double-duty this weekend racing in both the Street Stock and the Late Model Sportsman features. He will be looking for his first Late Model Sportsman win this Saturday night.

Jason Furrow #21 compiled 3 wins and 5 top-5 finishes in just five races last season in the Blacksheep Woodlands Late Model Sportsman series. Jason jumped in an Outlaw at the Alabama 200 finishing in 17th. Jason won the season opener at MMS last season and will be looking to repeat. He will be one to watch for Saturday night.

Chance Atkins #18 also raced in the Outlaw division at the Alabama 200 bringing home a top 10 finish. He finished 9th in that race. Chance will be looking to do even better this weekend, and hopes to find Victory Lane at the end of the night.

Justin Caton #7 finished seventh in points last season with 3 top 5 finishes. Justin ended the year strong and will be looking to pick up right where he left off this Saturday night.

Former track Champion Jim Walker #74 won the Super Late Model Track Championship at Montgomery Motor Speedway in 2000 and 2001 as well as the Birmingham Track Championship in 200. Jim Walker has raced all over the Country including at the Nascar level in both the truck series and ARCA series. We look forward to having Jim back in a car and at Montgomery Motor Speedway tomorrow night. He will be looking to find Victory Lane again at Montgomery Motor Speedway.

Modifieds of Mayhem competitor Larry Hughes #88 finished 5th in the MOM Points last season, he will be racing in a Late Model Sportsman this weekend. Sam Parsons #82, Wes Willis #0, Chris Wagner #5, and Larry Speakman #8 will all be joining in on the fun and looking to hoist the trophy at the end of the night.

The always exciting roadrunner divison will be BACK IN ACTION this Saturday night at Montgomery Motor Speedway. The Roadrunners are always an exciting show, we are looking forward to having them back!

Opening Night will feature the Shelby Concrete Street Stocks / Blacksheep Woodlands Late Model Sportsman and the Roadrunner Division.
