The week we have all been waiting for, it’s time for the 58th Annual Alabama 200 weekend at Montgomery Motor Speedway. Almost 20 cars have entered for the Modifieds of Mayhem 58 lap feature for next weekend, March 5th. This year’s Alabama 200 Weekend is expected to be one of the biggest yet, with a huge car count in all 3 divisions. The Modifieds of Mayhem points kickoff is shaping up to be one of the biggest Modified events in all of the country, and across the Southeast.
As for the Modifieds of Mayhem 58, the obvious favorite going into the weekend is 2-time BEAR winner in the Modifieds and 5-time Alabama 200 winner, Mr. Montgomery, Augie Grill. Mr. Montgomery has continued to dominate anytime he shows up to MMS, or any track across the southeast. Augie will be the man to beat on Saturday as the Modifieds get rolling and will look to add to his trophy case with his 3rd BEAR.
2021 Modifieds of Mayhem Champion, Bill Burba will be making the trip down to Montgomery from Ohio. Burba finished runner-up to Augie Grill at last year’s Alabama 200. He went on to win the next race at MMS as well as runner-up to end the season at MMS. You do the math, 3 races, 1 win and 2 runner-ups last year at MMS is pretty sporty. He will be looking for 1 thing and 1 thing only this Saturday, the BEAR!
Madison, Alabama native Jeff Letson is the 2020 Modifieds of Mayhem BEAR winner and always one to beat at MMS. He has entered this year’s Alabama 58 for 1 reason, to take home the coveted BEAR trophy.
Although Augie Grill, Bill Burba, and Jeff Letson have had great runs at MMS, there are many drivers in the field who I consider sleepers.
Kaden Honeycutt is pulling double-duty this weekend running a modified as well as a Pro Late Model for Jett Motorsports. Kaden has won in anything he has hopped into. He is coming off of a Victory at Speedweeks at New Smyrna Speedway to kick the season off and is looking to keep things rolling as he rolls into Alabama for this weekends race. He also races for Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing in esports iracing. He will be one to keep any eye on all weekend in both the Modifieds and Pro Late Models.
Another young gun that will be pulling double-duty next weekend is Jaxon Bishop. Jaxon finished in the top 5 his only time at MMS in the Modifieds last season. He has won races all over the southeast on dirt and asphalt, he will be a sleeper to watch this weekend in both the Modifieds and Pro Late Model’s.
Modified veterans such as Gary Sanford Jr. and Jordan Key will be a couple to keep an eye on as well. Gary Sanford Jr. finished 5th at last year’s Alabama 57 and 4th the second time around at MMS last year. Cordova, Alabama native Jordan Key didn’t race in last year’s Alabama 57, but he is always a threat when he comes to MMS. He will be looking to keep the BEAR here in Alabama.
Barry Martin ran once last year at MMS finishing 4th at the season finale. The Alabama native will be looking to build off of the strong run and get to Victory Lane. Another Alabama native Brandon Curren will be focusing on his Modified this weekend and is a threat to take home the prestigous trophy. Matt Martin raced at MMS once last season with a 6th place finish. He will be looking to build off the strong run and find Victory Lane.
