2021 Show me the MONEY series Recap

December 10, 2021:

The 2021 Show me the MONEY series began with the biggest Pro Late Model race in the Country, the Alabama 200. The Show me the MONEY series features some of the nation’s best short track drivers each and every race, all season long. Drivers from all over the country committ to the Show me the MONEY series schedule and compete against the best competition in the country week-in and week-out. This year was no different, with many drivers who were ranked in Speed51’s top short track drivers in the Country under 25 years old. Drivers of all ages competed in the series in 2021, but it seemed to be dominated by some of the best up and coming drivers in the country.

The green flag waived at Montgomery Motor Speedway for 200 laps of racing and the Show me the Money series was underway for it’s 2021 campaign. It was Kannapolis, North Carolina native Matt Craig on the pole after setting the fastest time in qualifying and redrawing #1. Matt Craig would lead the most laps in the Alabama 200 after taking the lead on lap 6. He would end up leading 115 laps of the Alabama 200 before being caught up in an accident. Matt Craig built off of his early strong performance in the Alabama 200 in 2021, bringing home the victory and the guitar in the All-American 400 at Nashville Fairgrounds as well as a win at Hickory Motor Speedway. Craig raced a total of 4 races in the Show me the Money series in 2021 and finished 11th in the point standings. After his accident in the Alabama 200 he responded with 3 straight top-five finishes and 2 top-three finishes. His best finish this season came as runner-up after a last lap pass by Christopher Tullis. Matt Craig had a STRONG 2021 season and is looking to build off of it even more in 2022.

The eventual winner of the Alabama 200 took the lead with just 3 laps to go, but he ended up leading the only one that mattered. Daculla, Georgia native Christopher Tullis came into the Alabama 200 defending his 2020 Show me the Money series championship and responded in the strongest way possible, finding Victory Lane. Little did we know that the Alabama 200 was just the start of a strong 2021 campaign for Tullis, who would end up finding Victory Lane twice at Montgomery Motor Speedway with 6 top-fives in the 7 races on the schedule. Tullis would go on to win another Show me the Money series Championship in 2021 after running the complete 7 race schedule with the Show me the Money series. Christopher Tullis will look to defend his 2021 Alabama 200 win and Show me the Money series Championship on March 5th as the 2022 campaign gets underway at Montgomery Motor Speedway.

The Spring Explosion 100 would be next up for the Show me the MONEY series, and it would be “Mr. Montgomery” Augie Grill qualifying on the pole. Augie finished fourth in the Alabama 200 and won the Modifieds of Mayhem feature at the Alabama 200. He knows Montgomery Motor Speedway as good as anybody, and is always tough to beat at his home track. Augie would go on to sweep the Modifieds of Mayhem’s 3 visits to Montgomery Motor Speedway in 2021. In the Show me the Money series he would go winless, but he would have 2 runner-up finishes and 5 top-fives in 7 races. He finished sixth twice, meaning his worst finish of the season was sixth. Augie would end up just 12 points shy of winning the Show me the Money series and finished second in the point standings and ran the complete 7 race schedule.

Alabama native John Bolen finished third in the Alabama 200. Bolen would have a strong year at Montgomery Motor Speedway, although he did not pick up any wins, he had 3 top 3 finishes on the season. Bonnett would finish 6th in the point standings with his best finish being a 4th place finish and competed in all 7 races on the schedule. Just like Bolen, Justin Bonnett would also finish his season at Five Flags Speedway and making the Snowflake 100.

As the green flag waived, it was “the Texas Tornado” Chris Davidson leading the field to green. Chris Davidson would go on to have a big season at Five Flags Speedway in the Allen Turner Pro Late Model series, winning the Championship. Chris Davidson would finish second in the Alabama 200 and fourth in the Spring Explosion 100 in his only 2 starts in the Show me the Money series in 2021. Davidson would finish 16th in the Show me the Money series standings.

It wasn’t long before Christopher Tullis made his way to the lead in the Spring Explosion, as he went on to lead 78 laps. The young gun and 2020 Alabama 200 winner 16-year old Jake Garcia would charge through the field in one of the most epic runs we have ever seen and pass Tullis on the last lap to win the Spring Explosion 100. A firework finish for the first 2 races were some of the closest and best finishes I have ever seen. Jake Garcia would continue on his hot run in 2021 at Montgomery Motor Speedway and other tracks across the country. Jake Garcia would finish third in the Show me the Money series standings with 3 wins and 5 top-fives in just 6 races. He would also go on to win the Super Late Model championship at Five Flags Speedway. In his first ever ARCA Menards start later on in 2021 he would finish 6th. The twin 50’s on Bring Dad to the races night saw familiar faces in Victory Lane as Christopher Tullis and Jake Garcia swap wins. The night saw strong runs from a few familiar faces though. McFarland finished just outside of the top 10 at 12th in the standings. Jeff Dawkins competed in all 7 races on the schedule. Dawkins finished the season 7th in the point standings.

The Fall Brawl found a new driver in Victory Lane. After Jake Garcia and Christopher Tullis traded wins for most of the season, it was 18-year old Jett Noland finding Victory Lane for the last 2 races of the season and ending the season very strong. Noland had a big season running full time in the #81 of Anthony Campi and winning 2 races at New Smyrna early in the season. Noland continued to get better throughout the season in the Show me the Money series and it showed, he will be one to watch for at this years Alabama 200. Noland finished 10th in the standings with 2 wins and 3 top-fives in just 4 races.
