March 30, 2021 Montgomery, Alabama: The night that MMS Drivers and teams have been looking forward to and preparing for since they last saw the track on November 7th of last year. The 2021 Season Opener for Montgomery Motor Speedway’s local divisions kicked off Saturday night under the lights and featured 4 different classes. MMS saw many drivers who raced at the historic ½ mile track last year as well as some new faces getting their first start in the season opener. Fans got to see new paint schemes , new numbers and new drivers as the Street Stocks and Late Model Sportsman divisions shined, both having really good car turnouts and putting on a show for the crowd.

The night got kicked off with a couple of Pro 4’s battling it out. Bobby Reuse #7 qualified on the pole and Cliff Wilcutt IV #21 started on the outside of the front row. Bobby Reuse #7 led all 10 laps in the 10-lap shootout holding off Wilcutt #21 and picking up win #1 on the season. There were no cautions and no lead changes.

Street Stocks at Montgomery Motor Speedway always put on a great show and are a fan favorite. Saturday night was no different. Charles Davis #6 qualified on the pole earning the “Bama Budweiser” fast time award , but after a dice roll started in the fifth position. Trey Grimes #51 started on the pole position on the inside of the front row after the invert. Outside of the front row was Wesley Schuffert #15 who initially qualified in the fourth spot. The fastest car in qualifying, Charles Davis #6 night ended early as he got caught between Wesley Schuffert #15 and the wall as he was making a pass and Schuffert got loose on lap 16 of the 30-lap race. Out front, nobody was able to keep up with Trey Grimes #51 as he led all 30 laps and picked up his first win of the 2021 season. A three car battle for second lasted several laps as Wesley Schuffert #15 topped JC Cleckler #5 and Kameron Wesenburg #32. Daniel Jacks #1 rounded out the top 5.

Bill Bethea III  #20 was the fastest in “Bama Budweiser” qualifying followed by Cody McCawley #62 and Dave Mader III #18m. The three were all separated by .030 in qualifying. Bethea rolled a 3 and started in the third position with Dave Mader III #18m starting on the pole position. Cody McCawley #62 jumped out to a quick lead after starting on the outside of the front row and led the first 11 laps. On lap twelve Bill Bethea #20 took over the first position. Bethea #20 led five laps before a caution come out as Ryan Price #75 took a spin on the backstretch. The second caution of the day came out a couple of laps later on lap 17 as Jody Davis #63 spun on the front stretch. On the restart, the second place car Dave Mader #18m jumped the restart before leader and control car Bill Beathea #20 and it resulted in him being black flagged. By rule at Montgomery Motor Speedway, if the driver is black flagged they have to serve the penalty by coming through pit road under green. Mader #18m chose not to serve the penalty and instead parked it for the night. From that point forward the race turned into the Bill Bethea #20 show as he led all of the remaining laps. Close behind was Cody McCawley #62 finishing in the second place. A battle for third behind the leaders came down to the last lap with Nathan Davis #05 taking third, Mark Singleton #45 finishing fourth, and Justin Caton #44 rounding out the top five.

After the race, in post-race tech, Bethea #20 and Davis #05 were disqualified. Both the #20 of Bethea and the #05 of Nathan Davis failed post-race inspection due to a left side weight violation. After the DQ’s this would declare Cody McCawley #62 the winner, Mark Singleton #45 takes home the second-place trophy, and Justin Caton #44 rounds out the top 3.
