August 17, 2020: Montgomery, Alabama: Bear season was in full swing this past Saturday night at Montgomery Motor Speedway. The Annual “Hunt for the BEAR” for local divisions. This race gives the local stock car divisions a chance to  run for a coveted Keith Hudgens carved bear. At one time track officials contemplated cancel the weekend due to a big crash Friday night that damaged the 4 wall. Repairs were made and the event was on go …Drivers appreciation party was well attended and everyone had a good time Thanks to Bama Budweiser for the beer, the cooler and chair giveaway.

Till Mother Nature took a swipe and gave the MMS track crew the opportunity to show off their track drying talents.

Bama Budweiser qualifying kicked off with the Impact Zone Photos Pro 4’s taking one lap around historic Montgomery Motor Speedway and it was Toney, Alabama’s Calvin Lewis with a time of 23.115. Roadrunners saw the #28 of Charles Ellis setting fast time in his #28 Monte Carlo at 25.256. Street stocks and the Late model division were each given 2 laps of qualifying . In Street Stocks it was Clanton’s J.C. Cleckler #5 with a time of 22.887 and Joe Hudson the 2015 Late Model Sportsman Champion bested the field at 21.206.

Race reap:

The #7 of Rusty Alverson took the lead at the green flag but it only took 7 laps for the #85 of Calvin Lewis to pass for the lead. Lewis took a commanding lead until the last two laps of the race. The late charge by the #81 of Eddie Dodd and the #7 of Rusty Alverson led to a three-way battle for the win. Despite taking no practice or qualifying laps, the #81 of Dodd was able to take the checkered flag 1st and capture the coveted “Hunt for the Bear” trophy and claim his 4th win of the season. Plus The “Impact Zone Photos” Pro 4 2020 Championship.

Race recap:

The #9 of Max Nelson started on the pole and was able to dominate the race and lead every lap including taking the checkered and the “Hunt for the Bear” trophy. Nelson has now won both of the races in the Road Runner division at Montgomery Motor Speedway this season.

Race Recap:

The #5 of JC Cleckler took the lead at the start of the race and looked to have the car that could contend for the win. Cleckler was able to hold the first position for a majority of the race but #6 of Charles Davis was able to claim the top position on lap 28 after having started in the 6th position. Despite two late race cautions Lapine, Alabama’s Charles Davis hung onto the top position and parked his Coca Cola Street Stock in victory lane to claim the “Hunt for the Bear” trophy and win number 6 of the season.

Race Recap

The #99 of Marty Catrett and the #71 of Joel Collier led the field to green. Collier was able to take the lead and maintain it until the #45 of Mark Singleton made a pass for the lead on lap 9. The #88 of Joe Hudson made a charge for the lead at lap 28 and despite a late race caution at lap 38, Hudson parked his machine in victory lane. Hudson captured the last “Hunt for the Bear” trophy of the night and claimed his first victory at Montgomery Motor Speedway this season.
