OUTLAWS invade MMS

July 22, 2019, Montgomery, Alabama: So when the announcement that the Outlaws were coming to Historic Montgomery Motor Speedway an air of excitement surrounded the event. Saturday night an air of clouds surrounded the event but racing won this time. With a few pop up showers in the area the track crew prepared the track and Budweiser qualifying was on it’s way.

Fast time in the Blacksheep Woodlands Late Model Sportsman division was set by Gary Sanford Jr. #18 … 21.918.

Outlaws were up next and the field was very close on times. 2 local Drivers were on top of the charts as Jason Furrow #21 was second with a time of 20.037 and Joe Bethea #33 set Budweiser Fast Time at 20.028.

Blacksheep Woodlands Late Model Sportsman were the first feature of the night and a spirited battle was waged at the front of the field as Gary Sanford Jr. #18 held off the constant attack from the #21 car driven by Mike Fields. In the end Sanford was able to hold the lead and take home the checkers. Tim Lynn #80 moved into the points lead with his 3rd place finish.

Kids Bike races produced a lot of smile from fans of all ages.

The Outlaw division is a Basic Late Model frame with an Outlaw/ Wedge type body. The have different engine packages with varying weight. With that being said the racing was very competitive and the fans saw a great show. At the drop of the green flag #92 Bubba Winslow set sail holding that top position for the first 30 circuits when Joe Bethea #33 made his move under the #92 and took the lead. Lap 35 saw the caution fly for the first time as the racing surface was slick from fluid.

The battles were great as the laps winded down. At the end of 50 laps it was Joe Bethea Jr.#33 in victory lane followed by #92 Bubba Winslow and winning the hard Charger award presented by Impact Zone Photos was Stuart Dutton in 3rd place.

The Modified Mini Division has become a fan favorite as end of the race passes have happened all year. Eddie Dodd #81 grabbed the lead at the drop of the green and held on till Jeremy Davis #85 worked his way around the #81 on the outside for the point position.
