2019 Season starts with a Dash, great racing and good times

March 29, 2019 Montgomery, Alabama: The points season for the Montgomery stars kicked off with some new cars, fresh paint schemes and some old faces.

Bama Bud Qualifying was first on the books as the Modified Minis set their field from practice times during round 2 and Road Runners drew for position.

Reuse Pole

Fast qualifier in Late Model Sportsman was the 88 of Roger Reuse logging a time of 20.731 around the ½ mile speed palace. Second was Perry Patino 20.768 with Dave Mader III rounding out the top 3 with a time of 21.085.

Austin Pole

Coca Cola Street stocks brought an impressive car count to opening night. Bama Bud fast time award was presented to Billy Joe Austin #51 with a time of 23.003 after the #6 car was light in post qualifying tech. Second was JC Cleckler #5 at 23.020 and Chance Atkins rounded out the top 3 at 23.030

Trophy Dash Wesenberg

First up was the new trophy DASH featuring the Street Stock division. 6 cars 6 laps with the #58 of Kevin Seamon starting on the pole with the #81 of Keith Grace on outside pole. The Action started at the drop of the green flag as a caution flew almost immediately ending the day for #8 Nicky Pate and the #58 of Kevin Seamon. On the restart the #80g of Davey Lynn #32 of Kameron Wesenberg and the #2 of Greg Foley set their sites on the front of the field. In the end it was Kameron Wesenberg winning the first 2019 Trophy DASH. Davey Lynn 80g came in Second and #2 Greg Foley finished 3rd.Dash

Modified Minis rolled out for 20 lap feature with Jeremy Williams leading the way. Caution flew on lap 6 as a spin slowed the field. The #19 of Jacob Hill had a strong car and tried to chase the #83 down, Although he crossed the line second he walked away with the #1 spot and the trophy as the #83 team fail post race inspection.

Late Model Sportsman kicked off the year with a 35 lap contest that had the fans on their feet as some very fast cars hit the track and they saw great racing throughout the field. #51 Perry Patino was very fast in clean air as he piloted his WCI Parts, F & E Sportsware, Rouge Wraps vehicle to victory lane. The only caution of the race happened on lap 29. Patino, Mader III and Reuse put on a great show as the fought for position over the last 8 laps

The Coca Cola Street Stocks rolled out next and the excitement was palpable. The field of 13 took the green and piled into turn 1 with the ending result being The #31 of Wesenberg resting with rear of the car against the outside wall when the #2 of Greg Foley made contact ending both drivers night. JC Cleckler started his season as he ended last year charging to the front. The #5 took the lead till lap 9 when the #51a of Austin wrestled it away and looked strong as he led the way till lap 21 as the #6 of Charles Davis was working his way to the front and grabbed the lead and took his new racecar to the checkers. (Tech note: #6 car failed post-race inspection). #51 Billy Joe Austin was declared the winner

Road runners Were Next as they proved a small car count doesn’t mean bad racing as #12 of Josh Wilson and Joey Deaton #55 proved it to fans in attendance. The 2 made contact coming out of 4 to send both cars spinning. At the conclusion it was the “Smurfman” #12 Josh Wilson in Victory Lane.

Our Next Event is April 6th as the “Show me the MONEY” series returns to Montgomery Motor Speedway for the Spring Explosion 100 plus a 4&6 Cylinder Demolition Derby, twin street stock features and a School Bus Race.

We will hold open practice Friday April 5th Gates open at 4 practice from 5-8. Free to watch from the grandstands. Saturday grandstands open at 5 Bama Bud Qualifying at 6 and racing at 7 … Tickets are $15 for Adults $10 for seniors and Military, $5 kids 6-12 ……5 and under are always free.
