August 28, 2017, Montgomery, Alabama: The evening started out with a meet and greet on the front stretch of Montgomery Motor Speedway with the drivers of all 4 divisions. With that in the books Announcer, Adam Otwell Gave away some gift certificates from Front Porch Grill, located in Millbrook and Aw Shucks in Wetumpka. Other sponsor were involved as Bama Budweiser gave away a Busch inflatable chair. Late Model Sportsman sponsor WCI Part.com provided t-shirts and the track threw in some shirts and hats for the fans. It didn’t stop there a lucky fan took home the flat screen TV and a drawing was held for a ride-along in the Montgomery Motor Speedway race truck.
Budweiser qualifying saw the #51 of Perry Patino set fastest time in the Late Model Sportsman Powered by WCI Part.com and Joe Bethea Jr. was quickest in the #33 Street Stock.
The first feature of the night was the Modified Mini division and it didn’t take long for the sparks to fly. Before a lap was completed the 2 drivers battling for the points championship made contact in turn 4 and sent the #22 of David Davis limping to his pits and the #7 of Rusty Alverson was able to continue. Once the field was reset it was Ashley Bridgemon who took control of the 20 lapper and brought home the Victory for the #2 car from McCalla Alabama.

Late Model Sportsman Powered by WCI Parts.com hit the track with the fastest cars starting on the front row. The dice roll was a 1 in opening ceremonies giving Perry Patino #51 the advantage going into the 35 lap event. The race ran clean and green and it was the Montgomery driver bringing home the win.

The Coca Cola Street Stocks were next on the card and a strong field of cars rolled out for the 30-lap event. Only a tenth of a second separated the top 2 cars in Budweiser qualifying and it didn’t take Joe Bethea Jr #33 and Charles Davis #6 to show that speed and head to the point. But that wasn’t the only battle on the track as 15 of the finest street stocks put on a show for the fans less than a second separated the top 13 cars. A close battle were happening all over the historic ½ mile track. Last race winner Dwayne Wesenberg #31 started 8th and had some tough competition to pass to work his way to the 4th spot by lap 11. Billy Joe Austin had a challenge in front of him as he started 10th and had worked his way to 5th by lap 11. Racing was hot and heavy throughout the field and the fans really enjoyed the competition level. Brian Hutchinson #38 had one of his best runs of the year till a flat tire sent him into a spin on the back stretch as Wesenberg made the pass for 3rd. Charles Davis #6 made his move on Joe Bethea Jr and grabbed the top spot.

A couple of Open wheel modifieds show to use the last feature of the night as a tune up for the upcoming Modifieds of Mayhem race on Sept. 10th. Mechanical problems claimed its first victim early in the race as the #80 of Davey Lynn retired after only 2 laps. His Dad Tim Lynn #18 seemed to lose power as the race progressed and it was Chris Wagner #9 taking home the first-place spot.

Mark your calendar for the biggest event of the year as Montgomery Motor Speedway presents the Alabama 200 “Hunt for the BEAR” September 9th and 10th.
Open practice for all divisions will be held on Friday September 8th gates open at 3 Practice starts at 5 and driver’s appreciation party starts at 8 with food and drinks.
Saturday pits open at 11am, Grandstands open at 5
Sunday pits open at 10am, Grandstands open at noon. On track Autograph session starts at 1 Racing at 2.
