Bobby East Captures Sportsman Spectacular 75

July 31, 2016 Montgomery, Al:Fan appreciation night was a big success as car loads of fans poured into the racing stadium ready to see some “Hard Core” racing and received  some great door prizes. With Gift certificates from track sponsors, Aw Shucks and Front Porch Grill, free race passes and some t-shirts the crowd waited for the TV Giveaway as one lucky fan walked away with a brand new flat screen TV.

The evening started with a Modified Mini race. David Davis #22 Set fast time during Budweiser Fast Time pole award. Rolling a 2 he started front row and was able to hold off Rusty Alverson #7 and Steve Looney #21 for the win.

Street Stocks were on the track for their 30 lap contest. Charles Davis #6 set fast time in Budweiser Pole Award. Davis and Dwayne Wesenberg #31 both started in the rear of the field and moved their way to the front. The #24 of David Wood took the lead from the green flag and as usual the racing was fierce all through the field. The restart of lap 5 allowed the #38 of Brian Hutchinson to power his way to the front. The lead swapped a couple of times between the #38 and #24 and the battle waged on. Davis #6 took the top spot on lap 15 and held off the #24 of Wood during a restart following the #80 breaking his transmission and catching fire on the front stretch.

With an autograph session completed. The Interstate Batteries Late Model Sportsman were focused on the 75 laps in front of each and every one of them. Roger Reuse #88 was the Budweiser Fast Time Qualifier and rolled a #1 to start the race on the front row with the #1b of Bobby East to his outside. The second row had 2 Hungry young drivers with the #50 of Ty Roberts, 2015 Rookie of the year in the Modifieds of Mayhem tour and Young Gun Perry Patino #51 currently second in MMS points in the Late Model Sportsman division. Reuse #88 got the point on the start of the race. The #50 of Roberts was on the move and slid into second and was hunting down the leader.  Lap 3 saw the  “#50 Tizzy” take the lead. The Birmingham driver used the skills that he developed in the Open Wheeled Modified class to wheel these heavy late models on 8” wheels.

Bobby East who qualified 2nd at 21.387 just behind Rogers Reuse #88 time of 21.280 dropped back to 4th and paced himself till lap 16 when he wrestled it away from Roberts #50. East took control of the race and fought back on a couple of restarts to hold the top spot.

Montgomery Motor Speedway will be back in action for one of the biggest events of 2016 The “Saturday of Speed” The race will take place on Saturday August 13th featuring the “Show me the Money” Pro late models presented by Blacksheep woodlands battling for 100 laps. The Trucks return for a 50 lap race along with a 50 lap street stock contest. Modified minis will also compete in a 20 lap event.
