July 18^th Montgomery, Alabama: Mother nature was just a little cruel this weekend as it took till Sunday afternoon to complete the racing program for the 4 Star Freightliner “Show me the Money100” Presented by Blacksheep woodlands. 25 Pro Late Model cars rolled onto pit road for Budweiser qualifying. The top 8 cars were within 2 tenth of a second with Augie Grill #112 setting fast time at 19.177. Austin Wood #2 was impressive at 19.272 and Casey Roderick #18 was just a click slower at 19.275. Rounding out the top 5 were Bobby Knox Jr #30 4^th at 19.298 and 7d Cole Daffron with a time of 19.318.

The first feature was the Street Stock class and as always it was an action packed race. #24 David Wood and #38 Brian “Bubba” Hutchinson started on the front row and the #38 roared to the leadwith Wood running a close second. It seemed that Hutchinson and his team have worked the bugs out of the car and was pacing the field as the other drivers were jockeying for the runner up spots. The #6 car of Charles Davis was struggling with the handling of the car and scrapped the front stretch wall during the race. The first caution flew as #6 Davis looped his ride around in turn 2. On the following restart the #24 spun out in turn 3 bringing out caution #2. Lap #26 had all the cars in a tight bunch in turn 2 and fenders were rubbing and cars were sideways. When the dust settled it was #31 of Wesenberg in the lead with the #38 in second and #24 Wood in third Lap # 27 saw Davis make his way forward and he got past Wood. Hutchinson was running second when on lap 30 Davis #6 was able to edge by him for the #2 spot.

TECH ALERT : A Motor protest was Lodged from the #6 to the #31 Although some of the Motor parts were checked on both the #31 and the #6 the #31 refused further teardown and the #6 was declared the winner.

The Modified Minis were next on the historic ½ mile track. The division was scheduled for twin 12 lap features and the competitors were ready for a big night of racing. Heath Williams #82 jumped to the lead and never looked back. The #25 car of Kyle Moore looked strong after a long layoff from Montgomery Motor Speedway. #7 rusty Alverson rolled his way to the second spot but just didn’t have enough for the #82 car. #75 Chase Spradlin , Always a threat in the Jeff Thomas machine dropped off the pace by lap 3 and retired to the pits.

Then the rains came and the racing program was suspended till Sunday Afternoon.

On Sunday 3 race teams had to miss the event and a driver change in the #114 car qualified by Sterling Marlin would be piloted by his son in law Michael House. The #114 had to start in the rear of the field. With a big challenge in front of him #114 House lived up to the challenge. He worked his way through the field and really had an impressive run and worked his way to the #3 spot by lap 75 but brake problems sent him to an early retirement on lap 89. Up front it was Augie Grill#112 leading the way with Casey Roderick #18 keeping him in his sites and preparing to pounce should the Hayden, Alabama driver slip up. Lap #31 saw the yellow wave for #24 Christopher Tullis slowing on the back stretch with fuel pick up problems. Lap 59 saw the #13 of Bill Bethea III take a hard hit into the turn #1 wall ending his night. The laps were clicking off when a rain shower brought out the red flag on lap 69. All cars were parked on pit road and the wait began. Once the shower passed it was back to racing. Lap #95 was the chance that #18 Roderick was looking for and passed #112 caution flew 1 lap later as the only multiple car incident in turn 4 involving the #50 of Ty Roberts, # 7s of Taylor Stricklin, #21h of Ryan Herbert and the #24 of Christopher Tullis.

On the ensuing restart Augie Grill #112 took the lead and control of the top spot. The action was at a feverish pitch as #18 of Roderick faded with motor problems and some of the young guns roared to the front. 7d Cole Daffron got his second podium finish in a row. Macon, Georgia driver Jordan McCallum #22m had a great showing and score a 3^rd place finish.

The final event of the day was the Interstate batteries Late Model Sportsman. The field came to green with the #118 of Dave Mader III and #88 of Roger Reuse on the front row. Before the first lap was completed the #88 of reuse made contact with the #118 of Mader spinning Mader out in turn 4. As is the track rule on a first lap caution all cars retained their position and a complete restart of the race was set in place. Before a lap could be completed contact from the #118 of Mader sent the #88 of Reuse into the outside retaining wall making hard contact in turn 4. The #88 was not able to continue and the #118 was Black flagged and sent to his pits disqualifying the #118 from the event. (Further Penalties may result after review by the MMS officials) During this incident the #51 of Perry Patino retired his car with motor failure. On the resumption of the race Dennis Reno #7 filling in for Justin Caton took the lead and control of the event. #5 Clanton , Alabama’s Travis Cleckler had his best run of the year and tried to track down the #7 of Reno but could not get it done. #19 John Adams had his first podium finish of his asphalt racing career coming in 3^rd and rookie racer Blake Sears had a strong 4^th place finish

Montgomery Motor Speedway returns to action Saturday july 30^th for the Sportsman Spectacular 75 and $5 dollar night. Admission to the speedway is only $5 and fans will see Interstate Batteries late model Sportsman in a 75 lap contest plus Street Stocks and Modified Minis.
