May 15, 2016, Montgomery, Al: When our fans come to Montgomery Motor Speedway they want to see Lead changes and side by side racing and Saturday night was not a disappointment.
With 3 divisions on the card the decision to qualify all 3 was made. First to hit the track were the Street Stocks. Current points leader #6 Charles Davis clocked a lap of 23.358 and set the bar but it only lasted till the #24 of David Wood rolled out and laid down a lap of 23.199 capturing the Budweiser fast time pole award. He was followed by 2014 track Champion Dwayne Wesenberg at 23.306 3rd was Davis with his time of 23.358.
The Super Trucks were next on the clock and it was Cumming, Georgia driver Brian Weimer #40 who posted the fastest time of 21.315. Buddy Welch #87 clocked a lap of 21.427 followed by #50 Bobby Knox Jr. 21.574.
Interstate Batteries Late Model Sportsman were next on the card and they all were shooting for the top spot. Gary Nix #99 set the time to beat at 21.811 but it did not last long as Ty Roberts #50 hit a 21.332. Roberts was looking strong till Joe Bethea Jr. driving the #18 Brad Edwards car kicked out a lap of 21.095. Dave Mader III raised the bar with a time of 21.032. But the top spot was secured by #88 Roger Reuse with a new track record of 20.790.
During opening ceremonies #24 david Wood rolled a 6 to set the starting lineup for the Street Stock division. That placed Josh Wilson #12 and Will Smith #7 on the front row. The green flag dropped and the field went roaring into turn 1. When they exited turn 2 it was Wilson leading the pack with #38 Bubba Hutchinson in second. By lap 2 Wood was making his move to the front and found himself in the 3rd spot. The first caution flew on lap 4 when too many cars tried to get into turn one at the same time. Contact sent the #24 car into the grass and spinning sending him to the rear. #12 Wilson held the top spot until lap 7 when Wesenberg #31 took control. The #31 was the car to beat as the laps wound down. Charles Davis in the #6 worked his way to the #2 spot and set his sights on Wesenberg. A classic battle ensued between these 2 racing rivals and the crowd was treated to some top notch side by side racing. Lap 21 the 2 swapped spots and Davis #6 scored his 4th win of the 2016 season

Super Trucks were next on the track and they proved that you don’t need a giant truck count to put on a good show. At the drop of the green flag Bobby Knox driving the Montgomery Motor Speedway #50 ride-along truck jumped out to a quick lead. The #40 of Weimer had a steady charge to the front and grabbed that spot on lap 10. Transmission problems slowed the #50 of Knox Jr. and he had to retire at lap 19. The action was all over the track as the fans saw #6 Okie Mason who started in the rear of the field pick off position all race long. The Lone female in the nights program struggled all day after a mechanical issue in practice almost put #47 Jami Weimer out for the night. With help from the AIR Racing crew (Roger Reuse) they were able to fix the truck and she logged her first laps at Alabama’s House of Speed. Tim Ramsey #88 had a good run going till smoke appeared coming out of his ride and sent him to the pits on lap 34. The Ironman award goes out to the #30 of Mark Knox as he had a great performance after spinning his truck early in the contest and finished in 5th. Knox had not competed in a few years but it didn’t take long to knock off the cob webs and get him in the middle of the action. The race came down to the top 3 as #87 Buddy Welch, #1 Howard Lane and #40 Weimer all had their eyes on the checkered flag. The Action got hot and heavy as contact was made on lap 49 between the #1 of Langham and #40 of Weimer sending the Georgia driver up the track and giving the lead spot to Florida’s Howard Langham. But he only held that spot for 1 lap as Weimer made a clean pass and drag raced the #1 truck to the finish line.

A special 64 lap race for the Interstate Batteries Late model Sportsman was the final event of the night and it looked like it was going to be Roger Reuse taking it all the way to victory lane. During opening ceremonies Reuse rolled a 1 starting the field straight up from their qualifying effort. That was true with only one exception as Dave Mader III had to start no better than 6th position because he won the last feature for the Late Model Sportsman. The pace was brisk as the field rolled off the laps. Perry Patino #51 looked strong early in the contest but had to retire early due to a steering issue. #88 Reuse held the position and did a great job keeping his ride under him. #7 Justin Caton once again battled mechanical issues and struggled all evening. But the race came down to lap 55 when short track legend Dave Mader III made his move to the front and wrestled the lead from Reuse. Georgia Driver Bobby East #1 had his best showing of the year as he was able to drive to a 3rd place podium finish. #18 Joe Bethea brought his ride home 4th even battling brake issues, followed by Jason Furrow in the #21 and #99 Gary Nix who stated after the race that he lost his power steering early in the contest but muscled his ride to a 6th place finish.
