Top Notch Racing at a Top Notch Track

April 18, 2016 Montgomery Al: Short track racing fans got a show Saturday Night as the Modifieds of Mayhem tour and 3 local divisions put on a clinic. Not only did the fans see great racing , they also got the opportunity to meet the drivers up close and personal in the on track autograph session. The front stretch was full of race cars and fans as they were treated to hero cards, candy and even Krispy Kreme donuts.

Budweiser qualifying started with the Modified minis taking the track. 2015 champion Rusty Alverson #7 set fast time with a 23.95 followed closely by David Davis #22 at 23.97

Street Stocks were next as last race winner #24 David Wood set quick time at 22.81 followed by 2014 Champion Dwayne Wesenberg #31 at a 23.13, Charles Davis #6 3rd at 23.37, Brian Hutchinson #38 4th at 23.45 and rounding out the top 5 was Josh Wilson #12 at 23.79.

Interstate batteries Late Model Sportsman saw the track record fall as Roger Reuse #88 blistered a lap of 20.860 shattering the previous record of 20.963 set by Justin South. Second was Last race winner Perry Patino #51 at 21.120 and 3rd was Brad Edwards #18 21.144

The Modifieds of Mayhem tour saw the #131 of Letson set fast time of 19.790. Second was Billy Melvin #145 at 19.861 and 3rd was Donald Crocker #5 19.933

The Modified Mini were the first feature to hit the historic 1/2 mile. David Davis #22 jumped out to the lead at the drop of the green flag and held that position for the first 8 laps. lap 9 saw the #7 of Rusty Alverson grab the point and never look back for his second win of the 2016 season

Street Stocks put on one of the best races of the night with Dwayne Wesenberg #31 controlling the top spot at the start of the race. Wesenberg kept his car under control even with constant pressure from the #6 of Charles Davis. the fans were on their feet as they witnessed battles all thru the field. The division saw a couple of new drivers compete as the #80 of Lynn and the #19 of Makey showcased their rides. The race laps counted down as the top three cars were bumper to bumper. David Wood #24 in 3rd was trying to put pressure on Davis but his focus was on the lead car of Wesenberg. Lap 28 saw Davis #6 make his move and capture the lead with Wesenberg finishing second and Wood in third. A strong run by Josh Wilson #12 gave him a 4th place finish and Bubba Hutchinson rounded out the top 5

Jeff Letson started second but rocketed to the lead on the initial start.Jim Wall went from sixth to third in the first corner with a bold move to the inside.At lap 20, Letson and Donald Crocker run nose-to-tail for the lead, about a half-straight in front of Wall and Billy Melvin.Caution at Lap 27 for a suspected blown engine on the 88 of Nick Martin.

Huge wreck on the Lap 28 restart. Crocker, Wall and Melvin appear to be done for the night. Melvin and Crocker have made repairs and returned to the speedway. Wall went to the pits on the rollback.

Crocker on a mission. He has quickly worked his way from 5th to 2nd. He is chasing down Letson for the race lead.

Caution at lap 36. Keith Joiner spun in turn four.

Melvin takes second from Crocker with 11 to go.

Caution at lap 42. Skylar Strength spun in turn four. Under the caution, Melvin comes to pit road leaking fluid.

Melvin grabs the lead on the restart. takes the Checkered

Interstate Batteries Late Model Sportsman took to the track for the final feature of the night. A fine field of late models were on hand for the crowd and the fans were not disappointed. The #88 of Roger Reuse took the lead for the first lap but had to surrender that spot to Brad Edwards in the #18 as he held that spot till lap 11 when 2014 champion Justin Caton #7 roared to the lead bringing the #88 with him. Lap 20 saw new track record holder Roger Reuse #88 take the point and lock his car into that position.

Gates will open at 5 Budweiser qualifying at 6 and racing at 7

Tickets are $15 Adults $10 Seniors and Military $5 kids 6-12 and children 5 and under are always Free.
