It is always great when racers get together in the off season and Sunday November 16th, 2014 was a day to remember. Racer, crews and families from 4 divisions gathered for the 2014 Montgomery Motor Speedway awards banquet. Almost every racer attended to gather Points fund checks, Trophies, Champion Jackets and assorted gifts and prizes awarded to the top 5 in each division.
Attendees arrived at the Holiday Inn in Hope Hull and found their way to the lobby area to watch the final NASCAR Sprint cup race on the large TV’s and exchange racing stories from the 2014 season. A big shout out goes to the staff at the Holiday Inn for great food and service though out the evening.

First up were Modified Minis as 3 time champion Joel Collier #71 collected the hardware for a strong year with 5 Wins and 10 top 5 finishes. 2nd was Chris Landers #9 who ran Joel hard every lap and fought back from numerous mechanical issues to score 2 wins and 9 top 5 finishes.

Pro Late Model Division was next to be honored and the championship came down to the very last race with first and second place tied in points. Race fans were treated to entertaining racing in 2014 with many side by side battles. John Bolen #2 was crowned 2014 Pro Late Model Champion with 1 win and 3 top 5 finishes in only 4 scheduled races.

Open Sportsman had two of biggest announcement of the night as the decision was made to change the divisions name to Late Model Sportsman and a title sponsor has been inked with Interstate Batteries. The true focus was on the top 5 racers as Justin Caton #7 won his first track championship with 3 wins and 8 top 5 finishes. Caton and his team showed strength and determination keeping their nose to the grindstone throughout the long season. Team owner and crew chief Allen Caton also presented Justin with a custom championship ring to honor the #7 drivers’ success. Jason Furrow finished the season in the runner up spot with 1 win and 8 top 5 finishes. Furrow also won the Sunoco Rookie of the year honors as the highest ranking rookie in all divisions at Montgomery Motor Speedway during the 2014 season. Joe Bethea Jr. rounded out the top 3 with 1 win and 5 top 5 finishes.

With all the hardware handed out the 2015 Montgomery Motor Speedway schedule was handed out. Highlights include the return of the “Show me the Money” Pro late model series, 5 open wheel modified shows added for the 2015 season. The Schedule features longer special races for all local divisions, Mini Van races and a demolition derby.
