Kannapolis, North Carolinas Daniel Hemric has been the man to beat just about everywhere he has raced so far in 2014. The short track ace has picked up Super Late Model wins in the Carolinas, a big extra-distance ARCA/CRA Super Series victory last week in Indiana and some Legends Car wins during the Charlotte (NC) Summer Shootout.
Hemric has been almost unbeatable anywhere he has raced this season – except for the series in which he won the 2013 championship.
Surprising to some, Hemric is winless close to halfway through the 2014 Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco campaign. He has run well, but has not yet etched his name into the win list this season. He will be looking to change that when the series heads back to Montgomery Motor Speedway in Alabama on June 28th for the Yellowhammer 125.
“Being able to win those races helps to keep the mojo up for everybody,” said Hemric. “We’ve been able to gain every time out with this new car. Although taking a win in the Southern Super Series remains the ultimate goal, it’s a lot tougher than people think it is. It’s a whole other level of competition down here.”
Hemric’s best series finish to date in 2014 was a fourth-place run at the Rumble by the River at Montgomery (AL) back on May 10th. The new white-bodied No. 98 out of the Carswell Motorsports shop in Georgia has been a work in progress, while their championship-winning blue No. 98 ride has been on tour getting victories elsewhere.
“I have faith in the new car,” said Hemric. “I’m really just excited about the progress we’ve made over the past few weeks with the new car.”
Despite not having a victory yet, Hemric sits fourth in points, just 62 marks off the lead. His five top-10 runs this year give him a career total of 18 in 20 starts is still a series record. He scored two wins in his championship season of 2013.
With some of that good mojo on his side, perhaps Montgomery will be the site of Hemric’s first triumph of the 2014 Southern Super Series season.
